Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Robert B. Parker received his Ph.D. in English from Boston University after completing his dissertation on Hammett, Chandler, and Macdonald. When he retired to write full time, Parker's passion for the world of the P.I. led to the creation of street-smart, wisecracking Spenser. The novels spawned the TV series Spenser for Hire, starring Robert Urich.

A master of suspense, Parker's forté is razor-sharp, witty dialogue and deep psychological insight. In 2002, he received the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America.
