Based on Chaucer's Knight's Tale, this play, written at the end of Shakespeare's career, is a moving dramatization of the conflict of love and friendship. Cousins and accomplished knights Palamon and Arcite vie for the love of Emilia, a girl they see from their prison windows. After they're freed, they agree to a duel in a forest: the winner will have Emilia's hand; the loser will be executed. Also available on CD as part of the complete set:
